Are Job Interviews That Hard to Crack?

 - by Aryan

Before we dive into the topic, let me first share why I feel qualified to talk about job interviews.

I’m currently in the final year of my three-year undergraduate course. At this stage, most students focus on their studies and prepare for an internship to take their first step into the industry. But those who have already done multiple internships during their studies are considered ahead of the curve. I believe I fall into that category, as I’m currently doing my third internship. (And that’s not even counting the ones I tried but didn’t fit into.)

Through this journey, I’ve picked up a few insights about job interviews, and that’s exactly what I want to share with you.

The Overhyped Concept of Job Interviews

One thing I’ve noticed is how educational institutions tend to put job interviews on a pedestal, making them seem like a make-or-break moment in life. And it’s not just them—society does the same.

Now, I’m not saying that job interviews aren’t important. For many, cracking one can be life-changing. But what really matters is the mindset and approach you bring to it.

Personally, I’m confident in my skills, passion, and abilities. That confidence helps me stay calm during interviews, even when I mess up sometimes. And more often than not, I get selected. Why? Because my answers come across as genuine.

It’s okay to feel nervous, even if you believe in yourself. But the problem is that students often feel pressured to get a job, leading them to fake answers or completely freeze up. No one teaches you how to deal with that.

Educational institutions often tell students, “You have to do this, this, and this to crack an interview. If you mess up, you’ll get nowhere.” But why doesn’t anyone say, “Interviews can actually be fun and easy if you go for something that truly fits you”?

Take 3 Idiots as an example. Remember how Raju cracked his job interview? He stopped worrying about rejection, stayed honest, and gave it his best shot. That’s what made him stand out.

Fear Won’t Help—But Self-Awareness Will

If you’re genuinely passionate about something and know you’d be a good fit, you’ll naturally perform better. This doesn’t mean you’ll ace every interview, but it will help you manage the anxiety that’s been drilled into you.

Of course, there are exceptions. Some students might be in urgent need of a job due to financial reasons, while others may have dreamed of working at a particular company for years. In those cases, the pressure is real.

The Solution? Just Start!

Sure, you can read articles and watch videos on job interviews, but the best way to learn is by actually doing it. Start attending interviews as early as possible—even if it’s just for practice. By the time you reach the real deal, you’ll already be ahead of your peers.

Also, take some time to reflect: What are you good at? How hard are you willing to work on it? Once you have clarity, confidence will follow.

So take a deep breath—and just go for it!
